Dense blackberry, tea tree and heavy regrowth blocking the view toward the lake before forestry mulching – Surf Coast property

Open cleared land with lake view restored after one day of forestry mulching – Surf Coast property by Otway Forestry Mulching

After

"This view had been hiding behind regrowth for years. One day with the mulcher changed that."

Many landowners managing larger properties have never come across forestry mulching — and once they do, the reaction is almost always the same:

"I had no idea this was even an option."

Arborists do incredible work and are absolutely the right choice for large tree removal, pruning, and tight access situations. But a significant portion of vegetation management on lifestyle properties — particularly blocks of an acre and above — can be achieved far faster with a forestry mulching machine.

Rather than cutting, chipping, and removing material from site, a forestry mulcher processes vegetation directly back into the ground as organic mulch. The result is immediate, clean, and visible — often within a single day.

It's particularly effective for dense scrub, bracken, and blackberry; tea tree and woody weeds; and regrowth, saplings, and vegetation up to around 10cm diameter.

One day of mulching can do what months of manual clearing can't.

Areas that were once impenetrable become open, usable land again — often revealing parts of a property the owner hadn't properly seen in years. Hidden views restored. Fence lines uncovered. Access reopened.

We see this most often with new property owners wanting to explore and open up their land, properties preparing for sale where presentation and access matter, and established landowners reclaiming ground that's slowly been lost to regrowth.

Many projects also benefit from both approaches — we regularly work alongside local arborists where larger tree removal is needed alongside mulching of surrounding vegetation. It's not about replacing one tool with another. It's about using the right tool for the job.

For larger properties, the initial work typically takes a few days to properly open up the land. After that, many of our clients find that a single day each year is enough to stay on top of regrowth and keep the property looking and functioning at its best. It's a straightforward way to protect the investment and make sure the land doesn't slowly disappear behind regrowth again.

Open it up once. Stay on top of it with one visit a year.

Many properties need a bigger initial job to properly open up the land — a few days to work through years of regrowth. But after that initial reset, most owners find a single day each year is enough to stay ahead of regrowth and keep the property looking and functioning at its best. It's the most cost-effective way to protect the investment long term.

There's also an environmental side to this work that's worth mentioning.

Many of the properties we work on have been gradually taken over by invasive species — blackberry, bracken, tea tree, woody weeds, and dense scrub that crowds out everything else. Left unchecked, these species don't just make land difficult to use, they actively suppress native regeneration.

Forestry mulching is one of the most effective ways to reset that balance. By clearing the invasive layer and returning organic matter directly to the soil, you're not just opening up the land — you're giving native grasses, shrubs, and trees their best chance to re-establish naturally.

For landowners who care about the long-term health of their property, it's one of the most satisfying outcomes of the work. Less blackberry. Less bracken. Less tea tree. More space for what belongs there.
